The commission has been printing the voter ID cards at its central office located at Kantipath, Kathmandu.
EC officials said five printers are being used to print the voter ID cards. The EC plans to complete printing of the ID cards in seven days. [break]
Asked about when the commission would distribute the voter ID cards, Chief Election Commissioner Neel Kantha Uprety said, “The voter ID cards may be distributed to voters a day before the poll day.”
According to EC officials, voters will be asked to collect their ID cards from their respective polling centers.
The commission on Wednesday had decided to allow A-Roll Printing Company to supply necessary papers for printing voter ID.
The EC will print 12.3 million voter ID cards for the upcoming CA polls. This is first time in Nepal´s electoral history that voters will get separate voter ID cards.
The commission has been printing 10 voter ID cards in an A4 size paper. There will be security features printed by the supplier company on the front.
A-Roll has been supplying paper sheets by printing an appeal to voters on the back side of the voter ID cards to cast their votes and a request to give the ID card back to the concerned person or to election office or to nearest police office if lost.
The EC will print the name of voter, his/her photo, address, date of birth, citizenship certificate number and serial number of ID card, among other details on the front of the ID card.
The EC officials say that one cannot reproduce a voter ID card by photocopying or other means. The voter ID cards will be colored and will be like normal ID cards with a plastic covering.
