Drive for effective judiciary on: CJ

KATHMANDU, June 10: Chief Justice Ram Prasad Shrestha today said the judiciary has launched a campaign to improve weaknesses within the judicial sector and to develop a judiciary free from malpractices.



Inaugurating an annual work performance and orientation programme for government attorneys, he said attention has been paid to full implementation of the campaign to make justice delivery fast, cheap, effective and impartial. The programme is organized by the office of the attorney general. [break]



He said nobody should raise questions over the integrity of the entire judiciary based on some weaknesses. He said the attorney general’s office and government attorney’s who are an important part of independent judiciary should also make organized effort to protect the independence of the judiciary.



Law minister Prem Bahadur Singh said the confusions surrounding the nature of punishment for judges if found indulged in corruption should be cleared. Chief secretary Madhav Prasad Ghimire promised government’s support to government attorneys.



Nepal Bar Association president Prem Bahadur Khadka, SC Bar Association president Indra Praad Kharel and others said there should be no hindrance to free, capable and responsible judiciary. The programme will last till tomorrow.
