DPM Thapa cancels Geneva visit, law minister to replace him

KATHMANDU, Oct 31: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa has cancelled his Geneva visit.

DPM Thapa was scheduled to attend the Universal Period Review or UPR on the human rights situation of the country before the United Nations Human Rights Committee in Geneva of Switzerland.


DPM's press aide, Mohan Shrestha, said that DPM Thapa cancelled his visit as talks were underway with agitating Madhes-based parties. DPM Thapa is the coordinator of the government talks team. The two sides are holding decisive talks on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Agni Prasad Kharel, will represent Nepal in the meeting scheduled to be held from November 2-6.

Government representatives from 193 countries around the world are taking part in the mega event.RSS
