During the meeting, CEC Upreti apprised Ambassador Prasad of the efforts being made by the Election Commission to make the upcoming CA elections more independent, reliable and based on technology.[break]
On the occasion, CEC Upreti also expressed the hope for support and cooperation of the Government of India in the successful holding of fresh elections to the CA, as in the previous CA elections, according to the Commission.
In response, Ambassador Prasad expressed the commitment to provide support as much as possible in ensuring a successful CA elections, including the electronic voting machines.
Also today, a team led by Envoy of the European Union Alexander Spachis met with the CEC today and discussed various aspects of the coming elections.
On the occasion, CEC Upreti while referring to EU´s observation of the previous CA elections, said independent and impartial observation helps the credibility of any elections.
Ambassador Spachis said the EU was ready to send it election observers and acquired information about the preparations of the EC for the coming elections.
Election Commissioners Dolakh Bahadur Gurung, Dr Ayodhi Prasad Yadav, Dr Rambhakta PV Thakur and Ila Sharma, and EC Secretary Narayan Gopal Malego were present during the meetings.
Meanwhile, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) donated 50 computer servers and 10 solar panels to the Election Commission.
The JICA has already provided similar computer servers and solar panels in all the 75 district election offices and the solar panels are ensuring regular power supply to the offices.
On the occasion, JICA Nepal Chief Representative Tsutomu Shimizu expressed the commitment to continue such support to the EC in the days to come.
