KATHMANDU, Jan 17: UML leader Hari Upreti has assumed the post of Minister for Defence on Tuesday. Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) General Prabhu Ram Sharma, Defense Secretary Kiran Raj Sharma and other employees of the Ministry of Defence welcomed him at the ministry amid a programme on Tuesday.
While welcoming the newly-appointed minister, Defense Secretary Sharma assured that the employees of the ministry will extend full support to the minister and cooperate with him.

"The leadership role of the minister will prove important not only for the ministry but also for the overall nation’s sovereignty, independence, national unity and the welfare of the nation. It will contribute more to the nation's integrity and nationalism," said Secretary Sharma.
The Ministry of Defence is responsible for the overall interest of the nation, defense and the Nepalese Army. The ministry has four divisions and 83 staff.
