After the meeting with office-bearers of the bodies concerned and experts, Committee Chairman Rabinda Adhikari said the two projects could not begin for long due to many reasons including dillydallying, citing that the projects should be forwarded along with national decision and determination.Adhikari mentioned that the two projects are also in the priority of the Committee.
Similarly, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) Ratish Chandra Lal Suman expressed the view that it would help tourism industry and economic prosperity in the country if another international airport was constructed.
Difficulties have surfaced to expedite the construction works of the Kathmandu-Nijgadh Fast-Track for lack of Detail Project Report (DPR) even if the Asian Development Bank (ADB) had carried out the feasibility study in 2008.
Also speaking at the meeting, Joint-Secretary at the Ministry of Physical Planning and Transport Rabindra Shrestha said that a high-level committee should be formed regarding the responsibility of the government on the total expenditure of the fast-track.
The Nepal Army has now opened the track of the Kathmandu-Nijgadh. The total length of the fast-track is 76 kilometres.
Likewise, Executive Chief of the Nepal Investment Board Radhesh Pant said that attention should be paid regarding the socio-economic positive impacts of the country from the construction of the fast-track.
Expert of the World Bank, Dr Chandra Bahadur Shrestha, said there was no similarly between the study carried out by the ADB and track opened by the NA, and warned that questions could be raised regarding the relevance of the international airport in Nijgadh if the distance from Kathmandu to Nijgadh was more than an hour.
Chairperson of the President Chure Trai Madhes Conservation Programme Rameshwor Khanal said the government itself would take initiative to construct the projects as they would help on the socio-economic development of the country.
Similarly, lawmakers Baijanath Chaudhary, Ram Ayodhyaya Prasad Yadav and expert Suresh Acharya also expressed their views on various aspects of the projects. RSS
