MYAGDI, Aug17: The cheese Industries in Myagdi have been able to meet only 30 percent of the demand in the district-largely due to short supply of milk.

“Though cheese in Myagdi has been preferred choice among domestic as well as international tourists, we have not been able to produce the required amount,” says Dambar Bahadur Pun, the proprietor of Sunny Cheese Industry. According to Pun the demand of cheese in Myagdi hovers around 40 tons a year.

Pun further said that the cheese industry in the district need 450 liters of milk a day to meet the demand, but only 150 liters of milk has been supplied.

“Though there is a growing demand for our cheese in some foreign countries as well, we have not been able to supply them because of low production,” says Rudra Bahadur Magar, director of Khayerwarahi Dairy. The dairy produces 16 kg of cheese a day.[break]

However, the dairy entrepreneurs have started cow farming in the district in order to increase the production of cheese in future. A group of farmers have started cow farming initially with 40 cows in 400 ropanis of land.
