Addressing a press conference organized by Maoist-affiliated Revolutionary Journalists Association in Itahari, Gajurel argued that his party´s central working committee has sole right to decide who should be the prime minister in the Maoist-led government. [break]
“Party chairman Dahal and senior leader Dr Babu Ram Bhattarai are not the only candidates eligible for the prime minister´s post,” he said. “The Maoist party is not the private property of the two leaders alone,” he said, brushing aside media reports.
Gajurel refuted media reports that his party proposed CPN-UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal or a Nepali Congress leader for prime minister in the event of Chairman Dahal not getting the post.
There is not much difference on who becomes the prime minister, but Madhav Nepal must resign, he added.
He said that the series of three-party meetings being held bear no meaning as they have yielded no substantive results yet. Claiming that a new national consensus government would be led by the Maoists, Gajurel said that the new government would extend the term of the Constituent Assembly.
He also said the UML is putting pressure on Nepal to tender resignation but Nepal is sticking to power with backing from Nepali Congress.
He complained that some media had disseminated false news during their general strike.
Meanwhile, Gajurel assured action, if substantiated, against Maoist cadres involved in passing death threats to journalist Somnath Bastola.
