They say that malnutrition, one of the major problems that sustainable development goal aims to address, has been overlooked as the country grapples with various other problems.In a program held in the capital on Thursday, they stressed the need of coordination between the stakeholders, including the concerned government agencies, to curb malnutrition.
"The issues of nutrition has become more challenging in the present context," Professor Uma Koirala, president of Civil Society Alliance for Nutrition, Nepal (CSANN), said. She said that problems of nutrition have been overlooked in the aftermath of the earthquake and the economic blockade.
Several cases of acute malnutrition have been diagnosed in the quake-hit 14 districts. President Koirala said that CSAAN is ready to coordinate with stakeholders to overcome the existing nutrition problems.
Radha Krishna Pradhan, member of National Planning Commission (NPC) said that problems associated with malnutrition cannot be addressed by a single agency. He said that collective efforts between concerned agencies were needed to overcome the problems of malnutrition.
According to the National Demographic Health Survey (NDHS), 41 percent of Nepalese children under five suffer from malnutrition.
