Climbers to search for 19-time Everesteer

KATHMANDU, Dec 6: A seven-member team of experienced climbers led by Pemba Gyaljen Sherpa on Monday left for the search of 19-time Everesteer Chhewang Nima Sherpa who has gone missing along the slopes of the 7,129-meter Mt Baruntse in eastern Nepal after being hit by an avalanche on October 20.



The team that includes Lakpa Sherpa, Nima Nuru Sherpa, Lakpa Nuru Sherpa, Lakpa Sherpa, Dawa Tenzing Sherpa and Pasang Sherpa will do a field search after aerial search after he went missing from an altitude of around 6,750 meters failed to find the 43-year-old mountaineer, who was just one behind Apa Sherpa´s record of 20 ascents but had age on his side being seven years younger than Apa.



The individuals of the search team will personally bear the cost of the mountain equipment required for the operation which costs around Rs 125,000 per person, according to a press statement issued by the Ministry of Tourism and civil Aviation.



Nepal Mountaineering Association has provided Rs 1.5 million for the rescue operation, the statement adds.
