“He (the chief justice) is still casting doubt. It is uncertain if he will agree for the leadership of election government. Hopefully he will, but let’s not count on it,” Gautam said during his interaction with journalists in Baglung. [break]
Gautam also said, “The president had held discussion with the parties, suggesting that the country could go to elections forming a government headed by a former chief justice, but since the UCPN (Maoist) opposed it, we had to agree on sitting chief justice.”
He criticized the Nepal Bar Association for its decision to hit the streets if the sitting chief justice is made the head of election government. “The Bar should either come up with the alternative or should take the responsibility (for the situation that will arise when there will be no election government.”
Arguing that there is no possibility of going to elections under the Maoist government, Gautam said the parties had to agree on the chief justice just to give the country an outlet.
He further attributed the present crisis to the incumbent Maoist led government. “This government has driven the country to a major crisis. If this situation continues, the country also have to risk the souring of its relations with the international community.”
