KATHMANDU, Oct 6: Interested budding photographers can show their skills in a nationwide photo competition organized by Wildlife Conservation Nepal (WCN).

The 7th WCN Nature and Wildlife Photography Competition called “Nature Through Lens” is now accepting submissions for the competition.[break]

Participants can choose to enter their works on any of the five themes: Landscape, Flora, Fauna, Macro and Human Interaction with Nature.

Working with the objective of promoting wildlife and nature, WCN also hopes to generate mass awareness through the photo competition.

Sanjeevani Yonzon Shrestha, Program Manager, WCN, says, “We’re trying to connect Nature and photographers. Most people connect photography mostly with culture and mountains. Through this competition we’re trying to encourage backyard photography where participants can take pictures of Nature all around them.”

Clicked by Nirbendra KC, a student of engineering and a photographer with a passion for nature photography, the photo displays the phenomenon of refraction and is the Grand Prize winner of the 6th WCN Nature and Wildlife Photography Competition.

She continues, “The winner will receive prizes worth Rs 100,000. We don’t give cash prizes. Instead, we award the winner with photography equipments.”

WCN also makes greeting cards out of the Top Ten winners’ photographs and so far has been able to support 300 students.

Major photographers Mani Lama, Raj Bhaiswal, Neil Eschen Selder, Hari Bangsha Kirat, and Nripa Dhoj Khadka, the latter the winner of the first competition, will be judging the competition this year.

WCN suggests that interested candidates strictly adhere to Nature photography ethics, failing which the photographs will be disqualified.

Only amateur photographers with no published work are encouraged to participate. Foreigners with photographs of Nepal can also enter the competition.

The deadline for submission is October 31.

The Top Ten winners and the Grand Prize winner will be announced on the day of the exhibition which is to be held at the start of January 2013.

Forms are available at www.wcn.org.np and at Foto Hollywood, Durbar Marg.
