Canada is bounded by three oceans - Arctic, Pacific and Atlantic oceans. Similarly, it has an area of 9,984,670 square kilometer which is about a third the size of the continent Africa. Canada has, surprisingly, low cost of livelihood when compared to other nations. The price rise rate has remained low and is one of the lowest in the world. Thus, Canada can be dubbed as one of the best destination for Nepalese students to study.
Besides low cost living costs, the country also possesses world’s top ranked colleges and universities. It has a wide range of excellent educational universities. Over 100,000 foreign students go to Canadian colleges and universities in Canada since a degree or diploma from Canadian educational institutions is instantly recognized around the world.
Canada has the world’s top universities in many fields of studies like biotechnology, business studies, animation, software development, urban transport, health sciences, law, environmental technology along with various other fields of subjects. It also offers a broad variety of over 90 universities and 150 colleges. But only a handful of colleges and universities in Canada provide scholarship to students from other countries.
The system of schooling in Canada requires 12 years of education before a ‘High School Diploma’ is granted. After this, a student has an option of joining a two year degree or a 4 year complete Graduation Degree.
Rajendra Shrestha, Director of Professional Education Consultancy (PEC), Anamnagar, said, “Students have to obtain study permit in the Canadian Embassy, proof of identity (i.e. citizenship), proof of financial support, medical examination and acceptance letter by an approved educational institution in order to go to Canada.”
He added, “IELTS or any other English Language skill Test is very important for a student who wants to try for Canada and want to get an admission in any of the Canadian University or college.”
He said that in the past a student who could prove they were educated in English medium schools, didn’t have to have English language skill test. But now, most of the education institutions accept IELTS academic module as a pre-requisition during admission.
Raju Singh, counseling director of PEC, said, “A student in Canada can work up to 20 hours on a week legally.” However, if a student wants to work for more than 20 hours a week, they will have to produce a job offer letter from a Canadian employer to obtain the work permit and work legally.
A job offer can be through any company that needs the services of a foreign person in Canada. An appointment letter must include the title of the post being required, the tasks associated with that position, payment for employment, length of the position and location of the company.
Canada, all in all, is the destination for Nepali students who want to pursue their higher education in an internationally recognized university and colleges. From the weather to people to educational institutions, Canada can be destination next after US, UK and Australia.
