The CAN is willing to host Papua New Guinea on October 31 and November 2 for two List A matches (50-over) of the Championship at the Tribhuvan University Ground in Kirtipur.
According to CAN acting General Secretary Uttam Karmacharya, the cricket governing body has requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to finalize date for the matches. "However, the ICC has not yet responded to the request," Karmacharya told Republica on Wednesday.Karmacharya further added that the CAN will be all prepared for the matches by October. "Since, we have around four months to prepare for the matches, we will be ready to host PNG by the end of October," he said.
TU Ground, the only venue for hosting the matches, was damaged by the April 25 earthquake and is currently under renovation. The CAN must convince ICC about the progress of preparations to get hosting rights for international fixtures.
CAN had sent the national cricket team to Dharamshala in India for closed camp training of the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier and ICC World Cricket League Championship last month due to lack of proper facilities in Nepal.
The qualifier is set to commence from Thursday in Ireland and Scotland till July 26. However, Nepal will play its first match of Group A against USA on Friday in Ireland.
Soon after the qualifier, Nepal is scheduled to play two List A matches of the Championship against Scotland of the first round on July 29 and 31.
