The committee took the decision following rising trend of unmanaged land plotting in Ghorahi. Of late, the trend of plotting land in the town and highway areas without seeking permission from authorities concerned is on the rise.

More than two dozen complaints have been filed at the committee, urging the authorities to stop haphazard land plotting.

“We are aware of the fact that some individuals are involved in land plotting in more than two dozen places without seeking permission from authorities concerned,” Ahmed Siddiqui, chairman of the committee, told myrepublica.com. He also promised necessary action against those persons. “Some people are even constructing houses without getting the map approved by the concerned agency,” he added.

Land developers need to pay Rs 250 per kattha (0.6 hectare) as tax and arrange road, electricity and drinking water facilities and leave five percent open space to get approval of the committee. Most of the land developers in the town have not paid required amount to the committee, according to Siddiqui. “Leave alone paying tax, they haven´t even informed us,” Siddiqui said.

To discourage unmanaged land plotting, the committee has decided not to approve land developed without seeking permission. It has also decided to set strict standards for approving land map.

Land plotting is on the rise in different parts of the district. Besides land plotting by real estate enterprises, haphazard plotting of land by the owners has become a matter of concern for the committee.
