KATHMANDU, Oct. 8: National Network of Women Rights Defenders staged protest demonstrations at all the District Administration Offices across the country today under its ´Campaign against Rape´. [break]

The network also met the Chief District Officers and submitted a memorandum, condemning increasing rape cases in the country and calling for bringing stringent laws against rape through an ordinance.

The CDOs are requested to forward the memorandum to Chairman of the Election Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi, according to Network Chairperson Dr Renu Rajbhandari.

Formation of a fast-track court to look after the rape cases and respectful rehabilitation of survivors are other demands put forth by the Network. "Minor girls are being sexually harassed by the members of their own family and the state should be very sensitive to protect them," she said.
