The clash occurred when cadres of the Mohan Baidya´s CPN-Maoist burned effigies of the leaders of the four big parties. Rukum-Salyan transportation committee member Lokman Budhathoki was seriously injured in the clash. [break]
Ashal Chhetri, CPN-Maoist Salyan district in-charge, Shyam Bhandari, Ganeshman Singh, Keshavraj Sharma and Bodhiram are among the injured. They are being treated at the district hospital in Khalanga.
Police have arrested over two dozens Maoist cadres including those from the 33-party alliance from Chitwan and Jhapa. CPN-Maoist spokesperson Pampha Bhusal in a press statement issued later in the day demanded that cadres of her party be released. The party has condemned the arrest saying they were made when the party was holding a peaceful mass meeting.
Bhusal in the statement blamed the UCPN (Maoist) cadres of obstructing the "peaceful mass meeting" of her party in Salyan.
