BUSINESS BRIEFS: Pokhara hotels offer Valentine's Day discounts

POKHARA, Feb 11: Hotels in Pokhara are offering discounts to domestic tourists on both room tariff and food on the occasion of Valentine´s Day. They announced the discount--the first of its kind--in a bid to promote domestic tourism in the western Nepali city.



Hari Sharma, the president of Pashchimanchal Hotel Association of Pokhara, said local hotels were offering 25 percent and 10 percent discounts on room tariff and food, respectively, from February 13-15. [break]



“All members of the association will provide the discounts for domestic tourists during the period. This offer will give a boost to tourism business in Pokhara, which has been witnessing slackness in movement of foreign tourists in the last few weeks,” said Sharma. A total of 350 hotels in Pokhara are members of the association.



German ambassador meets FNCCI officials



KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) held a meeting with German Ambassador to Nepal Frank Meyke on Monday. The meeting discussed trade and economic issues of both the countries, says an FNCCI statement.



During the meeting, Ambassador Meyke said potlical stability was basic requirement for sustained economic growth of the country. [break]He also informed that a team of Germany entrepreneurs representing small and cottage industries were shortly visiting Nepal.



During the meeting, FNCCI President Suraj Vaidya stressed on the need to reach a political consensus on economic agenda for the development of the country.



CNI seeks Czech investment



KATHMANDU
: The Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) has urged Czech investors to increase investment in Nepal. During an interaction on Monday with Czech delegation led by Miloslav Stašek, the Czech ambassador to Nepal, CNI officials identified potential investment sectors such as hydropower, tourism and agriculture and sought Czech investment in those sectors.



Speaking on the occasion, CNI President Narendra Kumar Basnyat expressed CNI´s interest in signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Confederation of Industry of Czech Republic to strengthen business relation between two countries and promote investment in Nepal. Basnyat also highlighted initiatives taken by the Nepal government to create a favorable environment in the country to lure more foreign investment.
