BIRATNAGAR, April 6: Finance Minister Shankar Prasad Koirala said on Saturday that the government was preparing to introduce full budget for this fiscal year in the next three days.

Stating that the upcoming budget would not include new programs, Koirala urged the business community not to anticipate major changes in government policies. [break]

“As the budget will focus on development works rather than diverse economic issues, it will be difficult to incorporate private sector demands in it,” said Koirala, inaugurating the 59th Anniversary of the Morang Merchant´s Association (MMA), on Saturday. It will only allocate funds for upcoming election and implementation of major ongoing projects facing budget crunch, he further said.

The government is preparing to announce a full budget by adding around Rs 50 billion to Rs 54 billion to the existing budgetary ceiling of Rs 351 billion.

Stating that the country has so far failed to promote economic agenda due to dominance of politics, he said the government would focus on the introducing programs for long-term economic development rather than revenue collection.

Suraj Vaidya, the president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), asked the government to take the initiative for starting tripartite trade talks between India-Nepal-Bangladesh and bringing the Vishakhapatnam port into operation to facilitate Nepal´s overseas trade.
