Padam Bahadur Lakain, 75, who was sleeping inside the house, died when his inebriated son Dal Bahadur, 31, set the house on fire. [break]
However, other family members managed to survive. Police suspect that Dal Bahadur torched his house due to family disputes.
Police are searching for the absconding son.
Cop in con job
JANAKPUR: A senior constable was arrested for allegedly possessing fake Nepali notes here Saturday.
Locals had arrested Harendra Chaudhari posted at District Police Office along with one Madan Kumar Sah, 22, of Yadukuha when they were exchanging fake notes at Birendrabazzar. Police later took both into custody.
Police had extracted Rs 32,000 rupees in counterfeit Nepali banknotes.
Three killed in Jiri accident
CHARIKOT: Three persons were killed and two injured when a truck (Ba.2. Kha 991) skidded some 100 feet off the road in Jiri Saturday morning. The deceased have been identified as Migma Sherpa, 21, his wife Tuku lama, 19, and Dhukpa Sherpa, 46, police said. The Sherpa couple died on the spot and Dhukpa succumbed during treatment at the Jiri Hospital.
Gamblers nabbed
KATHMANDU: Thirty persons were arrested from a private gambling hub in Thamel Thursday evening, police said. A special squad from Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu had raided the gambling hub allegedly run by Raju Singh and Bhupen Kunwar on the fourth floor of a private house.
Officials said that Rs 8,58,000 was seized from the pit. The two owners are among those arrested in the raid.
