Celebrated on 25th of January every year, Burns night is a celebration that marks the life and work of poet Robert Burns. Although the celebration initially started from Scotland, it is now celebrated in various parts of the world.

Celebrated on 25th ofJanuary every year, Burns night is a celebration that marks the life and work of poet Robert Burns. Although the celebration initially started from Scotland, it is now celebrated in various parts of the world. Poet Robert Burns (25 January 1759 – 21 July 1796), also popularly known as Rabbie Burns was a Scottish poet who wrote more than 550 poems and songs during his lifetime. He is regarded as the national poet of Scotland.

The night is celebrated reciting Burns poem and eating neeps, tatties and a wee dram - or, in other words, turnips, potatoes and whiskey. The main food consumed isHaggis that is is served with the classic side of mashed swedes and potatoes and accompanied by the finest domestic whisky. 


The celebration in Scotland also includes wreath laying, Burns Supper, live music and the World's First Burns Supper Drive Thru. People usually wear tartan printed clothes that have crisscrossed horizontal and vertical bands in multiple colors and is regard as the traditional Scottish pattern.


This tradition was initiated by the poet’s friends and family shortly after his death. Previously, the night used celebrated on July 21, the date when he died, however after few years people started celebrating the night on his birthday.
