Speaking at a panel discussion on “Supporting Women’s Representation in All Stages of the Electoral Process" organized by the Democracy and Elections Watch-Nepal and National Democratic Institute, Bodde said that as a supporter for free, fair, credible and inclusive elections in Nepal, the U.S. will work with the Nepal government and civil society to encourage women and marginalized groups to participate in politics. "Nepal is blessed with extraordinary people and resources. For Nepal to reach its potential, the country must have stability and a political system that truly represents Nepal’s diversity. Holding free, fair, credible and inclusive elections this November is a crucial first step,” the ambassador Bodde noted.
He also encouraged those registered to vote to participate in the upcoming elections, adding, “Exercising the right to vote is one of the most important responsibilities of any individual citizen.” A statement issued by the U.S embassy says that the U.S. government has given over $5.5 million in the last year to support democracy and governance efforts in Nepal.
