“We decided to come up with a clear view on the type of federal states, system of governance, electoral and judicial system we want in the new constitution,” said General Secretary of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Republican (MPRF-R) Atmarah Sah after a meeting in Singha Durbar. [break]
"It is vague when politicians say we need identity-based federalism in the new constitution. But that leaves many questions unanswered and the alliance will come up with a common issue-wise views on all those questions in the coming days," Sah said.
Senior leader of MPRF-Democratic Sharat Singh Bhandari said the meeting also entrusted the responsibility to draft a memorandum on Madhesi concerns to a seven-member sub-committee.
According to Madhesi lawmakers, the sub-committee will table the memorandum at the next meeting of the alliance scheduled for Friday. “We will then submit the memorandum to leaders of major political parties regarding our agenda,” said Bhandari.
He maintained that the alliance will also hold talks with leaders of all political parties who support the Madhesi issues.
The alliance, which was formed on April 19, decided to hold its meetings under rotational chairmanship.
