Prakash Budhathoki missed his penalty for Boys Union as he fired above the bar, while Akeen O Babatunde, Segun and Yuvaraj Rai converted their penalties. On the other hand, all five players -- Karna Limbu, Dilen Loktan, Diwas Giri, Nani Limbu and custodian Dinesh Thapa Magar -- converted their spotkicks for Birtamod.[break]
Earlier, the regulation time had ended in a 1-1 draw and the winner was decided directly through penalty shootout rather than playing extra time citing unfavorable weather conditions.
Earlier, Boys Union had taken a ninth minute lead through Ibrahim Rahman. But Deependra Tamang, a replacement for Ajad Pradhan, headed home the equalizer for Birtamod in the 75th minute to reignite the defending champion´s hopes. Tamang was set up by Nani Limbu.
Champion Birtamod bagged a purse of Rs 100,000 along with the trophy while runner-up Boys Union received Rs 50,000. Boys Union´s African player Azeez Oluwasin was declared the man-of-the-final while Karna Limbu of the winning team took home the best player award. Limbu received a cash prize of Rs 4,000 and a mobile set.
Birtamod´s manager Bhupendra Lingden opined that his side was able to win due to team spirit and good team setup. "Luck also favored us in the tie-breaker," said Lingden. Boys Union coach Sagar Ghimire vented ire on the referee after the defeat accusing the latter of treating his side unfairly.
