Army man in police net for attempted rape

DHANUSHA, Oct 10: In yet another attempted rape case, police arrested Ganesh Mahara (20) of Basai VDC-4 on the charge of making advances to a 19-year-old girl of the same VDC Wednesday evening in the district.



“A team of police caught Ganesh Mahara of Basai VDC-4 on Wednesday evening for his attempts to rape a 19-yr-old girl of the same VDC,” said Police Inspector Govinda Puri at Dhanusha District Police Office.  [break]



According to Inspector Puri, Mahara, who is currently serving in the Nepal Army, had made advances to the girl at a local market four days ago.



Family members of the victim claim that Mahara tore off her cloth in the process of making advances to her at a local market in a broad daylight.



However, accused Mahara denied the charges and claimed that she was his beloved for over three years. A source said, rape accused Mahara and the victim had been school mates three years ago.



With accused Mahara in custody, police are investigating the case.
