The student wing of CPN-Maoist padlocked the office of the director general at the Department of Education (DoE), office of vice chairperson at the Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB), district education offices of Kathmandu and Bhaktapur to press for implementation of the MoE directive.Students also padlocked the office of chairperson of Private and Boarding Schools Organization Nepal (PABSON), NPABSON and HISSAN to protest non-implementation of the MoE directive, said Lal Bahadur Tamang.
Though the ministry on June 14 had issued the directive to private schools to waive off fees for the month of Baisakh and Jestha, many of the private schools have defied the order. The government had also agreed with 13 student unions to direct private schools to return hiked monthly fee.
The student union padlocked the HSEB and HISSAN offices to pressurize them to implement the previous agreement to replace English names of plus-two schools and colleges with Nepali names. The union has been arguing that colleges are misusing the names of reputed foreign universities and colleges to attract students.
Meanwhile, PABSON, the umbrella organization of private schools, has condemned the student union's activities. Issuing a press statement, it said the MoE directive was forwarded to schools in all quake-affected districts for implementation.
