KATHMANDU, Aug 16: Senior CPN-UML leader and former prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Thursday accused the UCPN (Maoist)-led government of pushing the country into a state of confrontation.

Speaking to media persons at his residence in Koteshwor, Nepal also accused Maoists of conspiring against democratic forces like Nepali Congress (NC) and UML, instead of forging consensus with them.[break]

“Maoists have been indulging themselves in such activities that are only inviting problems and creating hindrances in resolving the existing political impasse,” Nepal argued.

Referring to the formation of Federal Democratic Republican Alliance headed by UCPN (Maoist), Nepal said such a grouping could not be considered a good indication for the country, as it only spoils the environment of consensus.

“UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pusha Kamal Dahal had earlier threatened us (NC and UML) to settle the issues from the street. And now they have formed an alliance. However, Maoists won’t be successful in their intent despite their repetitive threats,” Nepal remarked.
