Pun, who is also a politburo member of UCPN (Maoist), was admitted to NMC on Wednesday after problem in both his kidneys, said the doctors involved in his treatment. Though the doctors, his party, relatives and friends have suggested him to go to a foreign country for better treatment he was adamant on not leaving Nepal.[break]
"I want to undergo all the treatment in Nepal even though the party has suggested to me to go to a foreign country," a statement issued by Pun said.
According to his eldest son Jeetendra the party´s standing committee member Krishna Bahadur Mahara, who is also the chief of the party´s international department, met Pun on Saturday morning and suggested him to go to India as he needed sophisticated treatment. Mahara also informed him that he had already made all the arrangements to go to India. But Pun turned down his proposal.
According to Pun´s youngest son Deepesh, party had arranged an air ambulance to send Pun to the Appolo Hospital in New Delhi on Saturday. Pun is undergoing kidney dialysis at the NMC.
"We advised him to seek treatment in other countires because necessary tests can be done within two to four days in India or Bangkok but it will take seven days here due to lack of technology," said Dr Pramod Kumar Chhetry, who is involved in the treatment.
According to him tests are necessary to ascertain whether his kidneys will function or not. He said such a test in Nepal will take at least a week as samples need to be sent to India for the test. "We can´t say right now whether the kidneys will recover or transplant is needed," said Chhetry.
Issuing the press statement from the hospital bed, Pun expressed worry about the deepening intra-party conflict in the UCPN (Maoist) and he urged the party leadership to take sincere step for keeping the party unity intact.
He was the commander of Maoist army ever since the former rebels formed militia during the initial stage of the Maoist insurgency.
He masterminded hundreds of battle plans against the then Royal Nepal Army (RNA) baracks and police posts and also commanded the Maoist combatants at the frontline. He is credited with planning and commanding attacks on district headquarters like Dolpa, Jumla, Beni, Ghorahi, Arghakhachi and Achham.
