Acharya, who had an advantage of four strokes going into the final round, carded one-over 73 for a total of two-over 290 to register a three-stroke win over Shiva Ram Shrestha and Sabin Sapkota.
Gokarna Golf Club pro Acharya bagged Rs 65,000 in prize money for the win. This is Acharya’s first win in the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2008-09 that came to its end with this tournament. “It’s nice to be able to win again. Shivaram was playing awesome golf but I got a good break on the 11th when my ball found the cup from 120 yards,” was Acharya’s words after the win.
Sapkota caught Tour leader Shiva Ram Shrestha in the second position by sinking a birdie on the last hole. Shiva Ram, who was third after the third round, produced the best card of the day submitting one-under 71 for a total of 293. Sapkota, who was four strokes behind the leader after third day, carded even-par 72. Sapkota and Shrestha both pursed Rs 36,500 each.
Ramesh Nagarkoti, who carded four-over 76 for a total of 301, finished fourth, while Rabi Khadka came fifth at 302 after the final round of 76. Ram Thapa and Sanjay Lama (306) were tied sixth, whereas Krishna Hari Mizar and Deepak Neupane finished joint eighth at 307. Mani Rai came 10th with a score of 309.
In the amateur section, Rupak Acharya, the younger brother of Deepak, carded six-over 78 for a total of 306 to win his third title of the year. Prasanna Upreti, who was the overall leader after the second round, came second at 312 after another disastrous round of 11-over 83 Thursday.
The new season of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour will begin with the Pilot Golfers NPGA Classic to be held from April 15-17 at all three venues of Kathmandu.
