The program, “A Salute to Solid Waste Management Workers” is taking place on August 15 at Teku, Kalopul, at 8 am.[break]
“There are many garbage collectors who work with their own initiatives and aren’t involved in any organizations. They collect waste from our homes and roads and even help that waste to get recycled. By doing so, they are helping us to save our environment,” said Krity Shrestha, Media Coordinator at NYCA.
“So we organized this event to support them so that young people are aware of what they do and how they can also contribute,” she added.
She further said that as support, NYCA will be providing items like gloves and soap to the garbage collectors and they will be sharing their stories about their challenges and experiences in their work.
The program, besides being aimed at respecting the contributions of the solid waste management workers in our society, also intends to sensitize the stakeholders, media and youth on the challenges so as to make them more responsible to the overall process of waste management.
NYCA is a youth-led group and a coalition of youth groups working in the field of climate change and environmental advocacy.
Established in 2008, this semi-formal youth network has been constantly campaigning for environmental awareness in the country, through both central and regional networks.
