Dimple, the rich spoilt brat from Delhi is head over heels in love with her gym instructor Sunny. She convinces her father to help her boyfriend regain his house which is forcefully occupied by tenants. Only to later learn that he has cheated her and her father running away with 20 lakh Rupees.[break]
Dev is an art enthusiast and learns that Raina is in search for a genuine MF Hussain. She befriends him when she sees the huge horse painting in Dev’s collection. Raina manages to convince Dev into helping her buy the painting from the owner, therefore impressing her boss who had demanded it be in the office anyhow. On the big day when the painting is made public, it’s also revealed that it’s a fake copy. Dev has not only ruined Raina’s image but has fled with the 60 lakh Rupees Raina’s boss paid for it.
In Lucknow, Iqbal, meets Saira who is the daughter-in-law to a cloth trader. Iqbal too has a fabric shop and is in Lucknow for business purposes. He has genuine Zardosi embroidery materials to trade but is lost being new in town. Now Saira’s family help him buy the cloth and Iqbal, who is as fake as the Zardosi, runs away pocketing 10 lakh Rupees.
After being robbed, these girls realize that Sunny, Dev and Iqbal are the same guy (Ranveer Singh). Frustrated, they baptize him the Bloody Kameena. It’s Raina who comes up with a plot of conning the conman who has a track record of duping some 30 ladies in 15 years.Raina chooses the ambitious salesgirl Ishika Desai (Anushka Sharma) to carry out her plan.
Anushka Sharma’s performance is fine. The script does not ask her for much and nor has Ranbeer much to do. Of course, his tanned and
perfectly oiled bare body is a treat to the female audience but then again that’s not all we expect of him. The supporting cast is of Parineeti Chopra, Dipannita Sharma and Aditi Sharma.
While Dipannita and Aditi do their job okay the surprise show stealer is Parineeti, Priyanka Chopra’s cousin and once Yash Raj’s marketing and PR consultant. She charms the audience with her loud yet lovable act.
The film is directed by Maneesh Sharma who has done a fairly good job. Although the first half is swiftly paced, the post-interval scenes come across as boring and lethargic.
Sharma had the advantage of working with the same duo that created the magical chemistry in “Band Baaja Baraat.” The chemistry still sizzles but the film doesn’t manage to garner as much interest, owing to the weak script. It reminds you of “John Tucker Must Die,” the 2006 American high school comedy, and “Heartbreaker,” the 2010 French romantic comedy.
The film sadly is not as amusing and glamorous as Heartbreaker, nor does it have clever comedy and interesting characters as in John Tucker Must Die.
The music of the film is by Salim-Sulaiman which has turned out to be a major advantage for the film. The songs are preppy, and due to its catchy lyrics they have managed to rise high on music charts. “Jigarka tukda,” “Adatse majboor” and “Thug le” are being appreciated for being well-tuned and glamorous picturization.
Namrata Rao’s editing is crisp in most part. Habib Faisal’s dialogues are clever and funny but only at times. The cinematography by Aseem Mishra is eye appealing. Technically, the film looks polished. The sets are shiny and the actors look their very best on the beaches of Goa.
All in all the film is an average one. After all, investing time and attention in only clothes and the look of the actors can barely hide the loopholes due to the unprepared script.
