76, 578 Nepalis, 223 foreign observers for CA elections

KATHMANDU, Oct 24: As many as 34 persons from European Union and 16 from Carter Centre have been assigned in the field to observe the upcoming CA election.



Likewise, 14 persons from Asian Network for Free Election (ANFFRE) are to be assigned from Friday. The Election Commission has completed orientation programme to them on Wednesday. [break]



The Commission has imparted orientation programme to them on election system, election process, monitoring of the poll code of conduct and to whom they could contact during the election, said Suresh Adhikary, joint secretary of the Election Commission.



Nilkantha Upreti, Chief Election Commissioner, Commissioner Dr. Ram Bhakta PB Thakur and Krishna Chandra Neupane of the United Nations Development Programme had imparted the orientation to the observers.



As many as 76,578 people from 54 national institutions and 223 from international institutions will observe the election, it is learnt.



Meanwhile, election commissioners of SAARC nations, foreign ambassadors to Nepal, representatives of Japan, Australia, Thailand, South Korea and United Kingdom will also observe the election on the election day.



Among them, Government of Japan and representatives of parliament, observers of Australia and Maldives are in touch, said Joint Secretary Adhikary.



As many as 671 observers have taken their identity cards from the Election Commission office.
