The first Nepali woman to scale the tallest mountain peaks of all the seven continents of the world, there's still more to Sushmita Maskey than her outstanding achievements in mountaineering.

She is a social activist, motivational speaker, film director, and dancer. She's also known for her work in the sector of women's and girls' safety, empowerment and education. Here, she shares with Republica the five lesser known things about her.She has a degree in dancing

Sushmita Maskey may be a tough mountaineer, but she's also a graceful dancer. Trained in various forms of dances, including the ancient Charya of the Newars, as well, as Nepali folk dances and Indian Kathak, she hasn't really participated in any dance competition but is confident about beating good dancers if and when she participates in one. "I had scored the highest with Distinction marks in Dance Major in my Bachelor's. It's my hidden talent," she says. She also has the experience of performing on national and international stages.

But she can't swim!

She may be good at climbing the highest of mountains, she's, however, helpless under water because she doesn't know how to swim. "I've been doing mountaineering for more than a decade but somehow, I never seem to have enough time to learn swimming," she quips. Nonetheless, she loves playing with water. "I feel like a mermaid when I'm playing in water," she says.

And she aims to be an actor

"I've always been passionate about acting. I love to imitate actors, and I aspire to become an actor someday," she says. The love for acting caught her while young, and as a child she used to practice giving interviews and autographs. She actively performed in school dramas and also holds a Master's in English Literature, specializing in drama. To give shape to her acting dreams, she has also attended various theater workshops. She also has the experience of working as an assistant director in 'Between Matina', a short Nepali film.

Kathmandu's traffic scares her

"Kathmandu's traffic freaks me out. Ask me to climb any dangerous mountain and I would do that with a smile. But Kathmandu's traffic is nerve-wracking, and I get really nervous taking rides around," she says. These days she travels in public buses and walks if possible. Her fear of Kathmandu's traffic even made her sell her bike.

She feels ageless

She claims to feel ageless because of her lifestyle and her attitude to life. Most of her friends have already got married and have successful family life, but she has no plans to get settled yet. She feels younger when she's with friends of her age. "People often think I'm younger than I actually am, and I love that. However, what matters isn't how old you look but how old you feel. As for me, I feel ageless," she says.
