BIRGUNJ, April 5: A total of 497 electric jeeps, cars and vans worth Rs 1.48 billion were imported through the Birgunj customs checkpoint during the first seven months of the current Fiscal Year (FY).
According to the Birgunj Customs Office, the imports generated Rs 963.6 million in revenue during the review period.
In comparison, during the same period of the previous FY, only 165 electric jeeps, cars and vans worth Rs 430.1 million were imported through the checkpoint. The government had collected Rs 355 million in revenue from those imports.
Information officer at the Birgunj Customs Office, Uday Singh Bista, said that the import of electric vehicles has increased significantly compared to the same period last year.

Data from the customs office show that 4,128 electric motorcycles worth Rs 805.7 million were imported in the first seven months of the current FY. During the same period last FY, 3,374 electric motorcycles worth Rs 440.3 million had been imported.
Similarly, 609 fuel-powered jeeps, cars and vans worth Rs 1.16 billion were imported during the review period this fiscal year. These imports generated Rs 2.86 billion in revenue.
In the corresponding period of the previous FY, 748 fuel-powered vehicles worth Rs 1.5 billion were imported, generating Rs 3.73 billion in revenue.
Overall, vehicles and auto parts worth Rs 23.57 billion were imported through the Birgunj customs point in the first seven months of the current FY.
During the same period last FY, vehicles and parts worth Rs 17.15 billion had been imported, generating Rs 13.26 billion in revenue, according to customs data.
