27 fuel tankers enter Nepal Tuesday

KATHMANDU, Oct 7: As many as 27 tankers loaded with petroleum products have entered Nepal via Kakadbhitta, Jogbani, Nepalgunj and Kailali border checkpoints on Tuesday.

Four petroleum tankers among 30 cargo vehicles entered Dhangadhi via Nepal-India border at Gauriphanta, India on Tuesday.

The imports that had been stopped by the Indian authorities for around two weeks have eased from Monday, informed Man Bahadur BK, an officer at the Customs Office of Trinagar.

However, Sharad Paudel, Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) regional office chief, claimed that India has released a limited quanity of petroleum cargo.

"Indian depots, as per the instructions from the officials at their headquarters in Mumbai, have been supplying just 10 percent of Nepal's petroleum requirement," said Poudel.

Due to lack of petroleum supply in accordance with demand, the Far-western region of the country is reeling under fuel crisis.

Meanwhile, 20 tankers of petroleum products entered Nepal through the Kakarbhitta border checkpoint on Tuesday.

Indian authorities halt supplies via Belahiya

Citing ongoing demonstrations staged by the Madhesi protestors along the border, Indian authorities on Tuesday halted the supplies via Sunauli border. The irony, however, is that there was no protest on Tuesday.

Earlier on Monday, some policemen were injured after protestors had attacked them following the reopening of the border.

Dinesh Yadav, chief at NOC Regional Office based in Bhalwari, informed that two petroleum tankers loaded with petrol and another two with diesel have been stranded on the way due to obstruction.

Bhairahwa customs office has a record of daily revenue worth Rs 90 million via Sunauli border, as per customs officer Rabindra Pyakurel.

Supplies obstruction continues via Biratnagar-Jogbani border The obstruction of supplies from India and other countries have continued via Biratnagar-Jogbani border on Tuesday even after Sunday's deal between local authorities of Nepal and India to allow the entry.

One petrol tanker among 30 containers with fruits, vegetables and other stuffs has entered via Biratnagar border on Tuesday, as per customs officer Rajendra Dhungana.

Following Sunday's agreement, 32 petroleum tankers 58 cargoes had entered via the border on Monday alone.

UDMF continues border blockade on 13th day

Agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) cadres have continued the blockade at the Nepal-India border checkpoints in different districts of the eastern Tarai, including major checkpoints of Gaur-Bairginiya, Jaleshwar-Bhittamod and Birgunj-Raxaul on Tuesday for the 13th consecutive day.

Around two-week-long border blockade by UDMF cadres has caused acute shortage of supplies especially of petroleum products across the country.
