KATHMANDU, March 10: Two-hundred and forty-six workers have shown interest in re-entering South Korea for employment purpose under the Employment Permit System (EPS), which allows Korean companies to hire foreign workers in case of labor supply deficit.

In response to the Korean government´s re-entry offer, 246 Nepali workers have applied for Korean language computer-based test (CBT).[break]

The workers, who were re-employed for additional period in Korea after completing originally set service term of three years under the EPS, are eligible to re-enter the country.

Gyan Nath Dhakal, an officer at the EPS-Nepal Office--the focal agency for recruitment of Nepali workers under the EPS--said applications for Korean language test were accepted on Thursday and Friday in the capital.

According to Dhakal, 557 Nepalis have returned home so far after completing work tenure under the EPS in Korea.

The Korean language CBT is scheduled to take place on March 27. The 70-minute test, with a full score is 200, checks reading and listening skills.

“We will start Korean language tests from March 27 for candidates who meet the CBT criteria. The tests will continue for at least four days,” Dhakal told Republica on Saturday.

EPS-Nepal Office said candidates who returned from Korea after January 1, 2010 upon completing three-year tenure and aged between 18-39 are eligible for the CBT.

Candidates who pass the exam will be listed by the Korean government for re-entry into the country.

EPS-Nepal, in coordination with Human Resource Department (HRD) of Korea, is planning to conduct the CBT every four months.

The government decided to allow Nepali workers to re-enter Korea on July 2, 2012.

Nepal is one of the 15 countries that has signed EPS agreement with Korea to send blue-collar workers to work in agriculture, service, construction, manufacturing and service sectors.
