KATHMANDU, June 11: The recent 16-point deal agreement between four major political forces has triggered rifts in various opposition alliances.

A day after the split of 30-party alliance led by the UCPN (Maoist), four major parties in the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) have decided to oust Bijay Gachchadar -led Madhesi People's Right Forum Democratic (MPRF) from the alliance.

Meanwhile, Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist has also said that unification with UCPN (Maoist) has now become impossible with the latter agreeing to adopt parliamentary system of governance in the new constitution. "We were positive about party reunification with UCPN (Maoist) until it was for a people's constitution. But they have betrayed us," said CPN-Maoist Chairman Baidya at a press meet at the party head office on Wednesday.Terming the UCPN (Maoist) decision to sign the 16-point deal a betrayal, CPN-Maoist further said that the alliance of five-Maoist parties no longer exists. UCPN (Maoist) had formed an alliance with CPN-Maoist and other three Maoist parties to exert pressure on the ruling parties for adopting identity-based federalism.

A meeting of four constituent parties of UDMF -- Madhesi People's Rights Forum Nepal (MPRF-N), Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP), Sadbhavana Party and National Madhes Shadbhavana Party (NMSP) -- on Wednesday, decided to oust MPRF from the front for signing the deal despite opposition in the camp. "MPRF-D has been ousted for signing the deal," reads a statement issued by the parties.

Bijay Gachchadar himself was the coordinator of UDMF, formed with the objective of making a common stand on issues of Madhes in the new constitution.

MPRF-N, TMDP and Sadbhavana party have already severed ties with UCPN (Maoist)-led 30-party alliance from Tuesday. The alliance was formed to lobby for identity-based federalism in the new constitution.

As UCPN (Maoist) had itself taken the initiative to form the alliance, the dissident parties have been irked by the UCPN (Maoist) move. The UCPN (Maoist) had also formed another alliance with parties in UDMF and Federalism Socialist party for making common stance on federalism and other thorny issues in constitution writing.
