The security arrangement will be commanded by senior police officers including four Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) -- two inside the stadium and two outside the perimeter -- while Superintendent of Police (SP) will command the security arrangement of the Dasarath Stadium at the time of matches.
“Four DSPs will be commanding the security arrangements during the inauguration of AFC Challenge Cup,” said SSP Ravi Raj Shrestha, joint police commissioner at MPCO, Ranipokhari.
Six group stage matches, the semifinals, third place play-off and the final match are scheduled to take place at Dasharath Stadium.
The MPCO has made separate security arrangements for the main entrance gate, the VIP and VVIP parapet, the players´ box and ground cordon.
Similarly, rescue, evacuation and striking teams will also be deployed while ambulances and riot control vehicles will be stationed nearby for any emergency. The police have also decided to make use of sniff dogs and metal detectors for security purpose, informed SSP Shrestha. All the doors, including the emergency exits, will be kept open during the matches.
The police have said that they will bar football viewers from taking water bottles, match-boxes, lighters and umbrellas inside the stadium.
Police to escort foreign players
A special squad of police will escort the FIFA president Sepp Blatter, who is arriving in Nepal on Thursday. “We have already made necessary arrangements for escorting FIFA president Blatter from the Tribhuwan International Airport,” said SSP Shrestha. Blatter will leave Nepal on Friday.
Likewise, all visiting players will be escorted by police. “We will escort all foreign players from their hotels to the stadium and on their way back after the matches,” SSP Shrestha informed.
The players from India, Tajikistan, Philippines, Maldives, Turkmenistan, North Korea and Palestine have already arrived in Nepal.
Vehicle parking
Separate parking arrangements have been made for VVIPs, VIPs, players, ANFA officials and public. The VVIPs can park their vehicles inside the parapet while the invited VIPs should park their vehicles at Kanti School in Thapathali, police said.
The players and the ANFA officials, on the other hand, must park their vehicles at Khelkud Parisar as per the arrangements made by police.
Likewise, general public can park their vehicles at Kalomochan Temple, Thapathali, Bhishwoniketan School, Tripureshwor, and the underground parking of Civil Mall and China Town at Sundhara, SSP Shrestha told Republica.
