11 held for Itahari shootout

ITAHARI, July 15: Waking up to Thursday’s shootout between two rival gangs in Itahari, police arrested 11 persons with weapons.



Police Inspector Mahendra Shrestha said a raid on the house of Saroj Karki at Itahari-8 on Thursday night led security personnel to seize a pistol, six rounds of bullets, a knife and a sword. Karki however is on the run.[break]



Kiran Tamang, Amrit Chaudhary, Bijaya Yadav, Ashish (identified only by first name), Baburam Pariyar, Pradeep Kumar Shrestha, Bigyan Rai, Prakash Koirala, Raj Kumar Adhikari, Nabin Shrestha and Kaji Dahal were taken under control for their involvement in the shootout, said Inspector Shrestha.



The incident comes close on the heels of repeated incidents of gang-fight between youth close to Nepali Congress and CPN-UML. However, Thursday’s fight was not in political nature, said police.
