KATHMANDU, Aug 11: Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC) clinched its maiden King´s Cup title on Sunday. MMC twice came from behind to defeat Bhutan´s league champion Yeedzin FC 4-2 in the final held at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan.

Shiva Shrestha and Deepak Rai scored a goal each to secure MMC´s maiden King´s Cup title after a Yeedzin player scored an own goal in the 74th minute to level the scores at 2-2. MMC also became the first club from Nepal to win the prestigious tournament of Bhutan. Earlier, MMC had reached the final of the tournament in 2004 but was defeated by BEC Tero in the title clash. The tournament had not been organized since then.[break]

The King´s Cup is the second title of the season for MMC. The club had earlier won the Gurkha Cup defeating Nepal Army Club in the final on June 15.

In the course of lifting the title, MMC won all six matches in the tournament, scoring 22 goals and conceding five.

Midfielder Shiva Shrestha, released from the national football team camp on August 3, headed in the 80th minute to it 3-2 for MMC. Six minutes earlier, Yeedzin had gifted an equalizer to Nepal through an own goal. Deepak Rai sealed the victory with MMC´s fourth goal in the last minute of the six-minute stoppage time. Rai had missed the semifinal against United Sikkim FC after being booked twice during the last group match against Arambagh Krira Sangha of Bangladesh.

Earlier, Yeedzin backed by a large number of home supporters had taken an early fourth-minute lead as Chencho Gyeltshen headed past MMC´s diminutive custodian Ajeet Prajapati. Bishal Rai equalized for the visiting side in the 33rd with a freekick. MMC skipper Sujal Shrestha wasted a scoring chance two minutes later.

Yeedzin restored its lead in the 70th minute but was unfortunate to concede an own goal four minutes later.

In an equally thrilling semifinal, MMC had defeated United Sikkim 6-2 in an extra-time drama after a 2-2 draw in the normal time.
