Women lawmakers submit demand to CA chair

KATHMANDU, April 11: The Caucus, a group of women lawmakers representing different parties in Constituent Assembly (CA) met CA Chairman Subash Chandra Nembang at his office in Singha Durbar on Wednesday and handed over a six-point memorandum including their demands.



They have demanded a constitutional provision for citizenship without any discrimination between men and women and have asked to ensure inclusion of women at all levels of state mechanisms. [break]



They have also demanded at least 50 per cent women participation in electoral system and asked for determining the forms of governance in such a way that positions such as those of president, vice president, prime minister and speaker could be rotated between male and female candidates alternately.



The lawmaker have also pressed for making the National Women’s Commission an autonomous constitutional body and sought special privileges for women in fields of education, health and employment.
