The 49-year-old Gurung was given letter of appreciation by Minister for Youth and Sports Kamala Rokka for her selfless service in volleyball over the past 28 years. [break]
Gurung, a former volleyball and football player of Gandaki zone, served as volleyball coach at the National Sports Council since 2041 BS and was promoted to chief coach nearly a decade ago.
Under Gurung´s coaching the national women´s volleyball team had won the bronze medal during the 10th South Asian Games.
Gurung, who has a diploma in volleyball coaching from Bangalore, India, has trained various zonal teams, Nepal Army team and teams of Humla, Rolpa and other remote districts. Gurung had also served as the coach of the men´s team of Sikkim, India.
Gurung also holds the Level I and II coaching certificates as well as the IOC Solidarity FIVB International Coaches Course certificate.
Speaking during the felicitation ceremony, an emotional Gurung said she was happy that her contribution to volleyball was recognized. "This felicitation has made me proud and has motivated me to do better in future," Gurung said.
Minister Rokka lauded Gurung´s contribution to the sport. "One must struggle and face challenges to achieve success. Gurung´s success is the result of her hard work." She also urged Gurung to give continuity to her work.
NVA Treasurer Buddhi Katwal, Vice-president Kumar Ojha and NVA Women´s Commission President Niroj Maskey praised Gurung for her selfless service in volleyball. Maskey also presented a list of events conducted by NVA after its establishment.
