BIRGUNJ, April 1: Wrapped in a red wedding sari, Sunita Yadav’s dead body which lay on the patio of her parents’ house on Sunday looked alive and peaceful to onlookers. “Dowry took the poor woman’s life. The doctor shouldn’t have done it,” they were heard murmuring as Sunita’s 70-year-old mother looked expressionless just beside the body. The mother Sanful Devi, a resident of Harpatganj, Birgunj, believes that special death rituals are important to ensure her daughter’s place in Heaven.

KATHMANDU, March 4: As many as 120 cases of violence against women (VAW) were recorded in various places of the country from mid-January to mid-February, according to the Women's Rehabilitation Centre (WOREC Nepal).

KATHMANDU, Nov 25: Various programs are being organized today in different parts of the country to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, which falls on November 25 every year.
