ILAM, April 2: The tea industry in Ilam district is facing losses of millions of Rupees as the farmers have not been able to pick green tea from the tea gardens due to the lockdown. The lockdown came into effect as the farmers were preparing to pluck quality tea leaves. The tea leaves are outgrowing because of the delay in plucking.

ILAM, Sept 21: How much does green tea cost? Most people have heard Rs 20, Rs 40, Rs 80 or even Rs 300 a kilogram at the garden. But some farmers in Ilam are selling green tea buds for as high as Rs 1,500 per kilogram. Green tea usually has two leaves and a bud. Industries buy the buds for Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per kilo. The wage for picking up the buds is Rs 500 per kilogram.
