Green tea buds traded at Rs 1,500 a kilo

ILAM, Sept 21: How much does green tea cost? Most people have heard Rs 20, Rs 40, Rs 80 or even Rs 300 a kilogram at the garden. But some farmers in Ilam are selling green tea buds for as high as Rs 1,500 per kilogram. Green tea usually has two leaves and a bud. Industries buy the buds for Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per kilo. The wage for picking up the buds is Rs 500 per kilogram.

ILAM, July 4: Tea farmers of Suryodaya Municipality of Ilam threw green leaves on road on Sunday as part of their protest against factory operators.
