DANG, March 11: Vultures, considered as natural environmental cleaners with a crucial role in preventing diseases like cholera and diarrhea, are facing a severe threat to their population. Nepal, home to nine vulture species, is experiencing a decline in their numbers, according to the Vulture Conservation Campaign Network.

NAWALPUR, Dec 4: The population of vultures has increased significantly due to the establishment of Jatayu Restaurant in Kawasoti of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta-East) for the protection of this endangered bird species.

KATHMANDU, Feb 9: Easy availability of animal carcasses has helped conserve endangered vultures in Tanahun district. Availability of carcasses of cow and ox at Shishuwa Bhateri in Byas Municipality-10 has contributed to the conservation of the scavengers, also known as nature's cleanup crew. As a result, many vultures, which are at the risk of disappearing due to rampant urbanization, and lack of prey, have started making their presence in the area.

CHITWAN, April 17: The vulture breeding center at the Chitwan National Park (CNP) is to shut down. Established in 2008, the center is closing down in view of the increasing number of vultures in the wild and the breeding not becoming impactful at the center, the park officials said.

MAHENDRANAGAR, Sept 16: As a small kid, Mohan Negi of Majhagaun village used to see huge wake of vultures fighting around the carcasses of dead animals. He reminisces that these vultures used to very big. He used to get very excited observing these vultures. “I would consider them mightiest among birds; they were so energetic and passionate,” he reminisced.
