Nepal's biodiversity is protected in its unique protected area system, which comprises 23.39 percent of the country, covering 3.4 million hectares. Although representation of the mid-range mountains is less captured in its protected areas system, the country can boast of several endangered wildlife species increasing in number, including tiger and rhinoceros.

ITAHARI, May 20: In the fourth week of November 2017, two people died in the buffer zone of the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve (KTWR) after being trampled by a rampaging wild elephant.
