Yunnan Governor pays courtesy call on Vice President Pun

KATHMANDU, June 11: Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun 'Pasang', who is on an official visit to China, was paid a courtesy call Saturday by Governor of Yunnan Provincial People's Government, Chen Hao.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged their views on cooperation between Nepal and the Yunnan Province of China, the Embassy of Nepal in Beijing said in a press release. 

Vice President Pun, while appreciating the unprecedented economic development achieved by Yunnan Province, thanked the Provincial Government for holding China South Asia Expo and Trade Fair with a view to enhance trade and economic relations.

The Vice President invited entrepreneurs from Yunnan Province to invest in Nepal's energy and other infrastructures, adding that more investment friendly environment has been created in the recent past following the promulgation of the Constitution. He also thanked the Government and the people of China for showing their support and solidarity in Nepal's endeavour towards the peace process. He also recalled the instant support of the Government of China during the last year's devastating earthquake.

Governor Chen, while extending a warm welcome to the Nepalese high-level delegation, expressed that the Chinese Government has attached high importance to this visit. He stated that Yunnan Province is willing to collaborate with Nepal in such areas as energy, infrastructure, tourism, health and education for mutual benefit. The two sides also stressed on the importance of working together under the framework of the Belt And Road Initiative by strengthening connectivity and exploring further opportunities.

Following the courtesy call, Governor Chen hosted a welcome luncheon in honour of the Vice President and his delegation.

Also this afternoon the Nepalese delegation visited the Yunnan Provincial Government's Energy Investment Group. In a briefing, the company management expressed its strong interest to invest in Nepal's energy sector.

Vice President Pun arrived yesterday evening at the Kunming International Airport where he was received by Mr Mao Wenguo, Vice Chairman, Standing Committee of National People's Congress and Charge de' Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Nepal in Beijing.

The Vice President is scheduled to address the Opening Ceremony of the 4th China-South Asia Exposition, 24th Import Export Commodity Fair and the 11th China-South Asia Business Forum tomorrow. Following this, Wang Yang, Vice Premier of the State Council of China, will call on the Vice President.

The Vice President Pun is accompanied by his spouse Mrs Hastamali Pun Magar, Secretary of the Vice President's Office Mr Rajendra Kishore Kshetri, Private Secretary of the Vice President Mr Shuk Bahadur Roka, Charge de' Affaires a.i. Mr Nirmal Raj Kafle, Press Coordinator Mr Manoj Kumar Gharti and other delegates. He is leading a 14-member delegation. RSS
