Youth foundation brings joy to village

TANAHU, Dec 22: British national P S Halseal has donated millions for the established a foundation for youth empowerment in Bandipur VDC-3 of Tanahu district, in memory of her Nepali helper, Bharat Achhami.



Achhami, who had taken care of Halseal´s parents for a decade in Rajesthan, India, died of a heart attack in 2008.[break]



Halseal has named the foundation after Bharat Achhami.



"The foundation, after its completion, will offer skills training to locals to help them access employment or become independent entrepreneurs," said secretary of the foundation Dil Bahadur Achhami, brother of the deceased.



The foundation has been constructing a concrete building meant for the training centre. It has also widened the approach road to the foundation and built public toilets and a reservoir of 100,000 litre capacity for public use.



According to engineer Bhawani Singh Rathore, over Rs 10 million has been spent on the construction. "The construction was initiated one and half years ago and will take 5-6 more months for completion," he said.



"The skills training program will kick off right after the completion of the building," said chief of the foundation, Indira Achhami, Bharat´s widow.



She informed that the foundation will enroll the participation of 16 Dalit families of the village in its first phase training program, to be followed by 40 other households.



After learning about the foundation, locals have been returning from abroad and some of them are employed in the construction work.



"I was earning Rs 12,000 a month in the desert heat of Qatar and now the foundation is paying me Rs 10,000 working on the building construction. I returned to Nepal after I came to know about the foundation," said a local, Sanjeev Nepali.



The development brought about by the foundation has spread joy among the Dalit and Magar families in the village. "Now we have an ample supply of water and a road has reached our village," said Geeta Nepali.
