Your Choice

It's your body, your mind, and your choice. Yes, it's your choice to wear the clothes you like. But you have to understand that just because you have it, doesn't mean you have to flaunt it. But if you really want to flaunt it, then wearing our traditional saris will do a much better job than dressing up like Lady Gaga or Nicky Minaj. Yes, saris bring out the best when it comes to showing your curves. But when it comes to the cleavage, it's better to cover up rather than give dirty old and young men an invitation to ogle at you. The only exception is if you are an international pop star then you have to appear with the least amount of clothes possible because it's a part of your act.

Yes, it's your choice to be a size zero or a size 15. But please remember that going from one extreme to another is not only bad for your health but will also force you to become bulimic or a glutton. You can eat whatever you like as long as you exercise. Go for a daily walk or a Zumba class with your friends. Eat the sweets but also sweat it out.

It doesn't matter if you are skinny or chubby. If you are comfortable with your size then the world doesn't care. Free your mind because most of the time, people are worried about themselves rather than worrying about how many pounds you have gained or lost in the last month.

Yes, it's your choice to marry or not to marry. Some of us fall in love early and get to marry our school or college sweethearts. Some of us are lucky to have arranged marriages where you get to fall in love slowly and understand each other as the years go by. Some of us haven't found the right one yet. Some of us are just so much in love with themselves that they don't want to share the love with others. And some really want to remain single forever for their own personal reasons.

But somewhere down the years, we need someone to hold on to. We need someone to share our happiness and sorrows. And it doesn't really have to be a man. A dog will do for some people as well.

Yes, it's your choice to have sex before marriage or outside of marriage or not to have sex at all. If you want to have sex before marriage, then always practice safe sex and take precautions. Always use condoms to protect yourself against sexually transmitted diseases. You never know, the hunk might be the one with the nasty junk.

Marriage is a commitment between two people. It's not only about sharing and caring for each other but also remaining monogamous. If you really want to have sex outside of marriage then please allow your partner to make a choice as well. Then you both can be swinging around town. And for those who do not want to have any sex in their lifetime, chocolates will always come in handy.

Yes, it's your choice to love temporarily or to lust forever. But if you really want a part-time lover or fantasize about hundreds of potential lovers in a day then please take meditation workshops and control your urges. Don't break someone else's heart by just getting into a relationship every monsoon. Don't lust after someone forever. If you have such strong sexual desire for someone then let the person know. Who knows, it might turn to love and then marriage or just a one-night stand. Enjoy it while it lasts and don't be a stalker later on. It's your choice.

You can love a woman or a man or both. Yes, love is love. It doesn't matter if you are a metrosexual, homosexual, bisexual or transgender. But let the other person know if you are in it just for fun in the sun or a long-term relationship. At least, your lover will be prepared to face the worst if the relationship fails or best if it turns out alright.

Yes, the ring, bindi, and adding a new surname to yours can be replaced. If you are in a bad marriage then it's best to walk away and start anew. But if there are things than can be worked out then give you partner a second chance. We all deserve a second chance.

Yes, it's your choice to come home when you want but even the local stray dog will be upset if you come home at four in the morning. If you have a night shift at work then it's understandable but if you are partying till early morning then please stay safe and let your partner know where you are and how you will get home.

With the rush hour traffic, no one really expects an independent young professional woman to be home by six in the evening. Only a fool will expect the other person to be home that early. Sometimes, we have torch rallies or our President will be driving around town. So, a few hours' delay will not make one file a missing persons report at the local police station.

Yes, it's your choice to have a baby or not. Some people don't want to have a baby for their own personal reasons. Some really do want a baby but their medical conditions prevent them from having a child. Adopt a child if you can't have a baby and love him or her unconditionally. Bring joy to this world.

It's tough being a woman in a patriarchal society such as ours where men seem to know it all. It seems that men have long forgotten that they were not delivered by storks or the Sun God but were brought to this world by women. The society wants to bind you with shackles of stereotypes and other biases but you have to be strong and determined to overcome all the obstacles that the society throws at you to hinder your progress.

The choice is, definitely, yours.
