According to YI, “With the strong belief that young people are not just leaders of tomorrow but also partners of today,” Youth Initiative recognizes young people as change makers and agents of social transformation and hence encourages them to take up leadership positions, to bring about positive changes in societies that they live in while growing up to their full potential.”[break]
With the above in mind, this year’s award has been named the Integrity Award to continue anti-corruption efforts. The hope for 2011 is to bestow this honor on a youth advocate who has the potential to impact the fight against corruption.
“We had conducted an integrity conference on July 2 and have decided to have an integrity award to promote good governance and encourage participation for anti corruption among youth,” said Mahesh Dhungel, Executive Director of Youth Initiave.
He further opined that any individual who has conducted a project that promotes integrity or works in civil society is eligible to enter the awards. “We want to support ideas and projects of youth and honor them,” added Dhungel.
The award is open to all Nepali youth between the age groups 16-29. The award amount can be spent for ideas/projects anywhere in Nepal and can be applied by a person or by an entire team. It should be an innovative/creative idea focusing on impact; on-going projects or new projects can be proposed and must focus on anti-corruption activities.
To enter the competition, interested candidates can fill the application form available at www. youth.org,np or email at programs@youthintitiative.org.np, either in Nepali or English. All entrants must be available to attend the event, if shortlisted, on December 9.
The name of shortlist of entrants and their entries will be published on www.youth.org.np and www.nepaliyouth.org. Details of the winner will be published on December 9. All short listed candidates may be asked to provide additional information and a short presentation.
The winner of the award will receive a package of support to help him/her to take their ideas to the next level including, a cash prize of Rs. 20,000, Youth Initiative emblem, capacity building training by experts, will feature on Youth Initiative’s website and social networking sites.
The entry deadline is on November 15 and the names of the short listed candidates will be announced on December 1.
The final event will take place on December 9.
